Mac has 41 years of volunteer Fire Service in Nova Scotia fire with 36 in Elmsdale and 23 as Chief Officer. He is a "Charter Member" of Chief Fire Officers of Nova Scotia since it was formed in 1964 and supported that organization until it became FSANS. Mac has been Chair of Halifax-Hants Mutual fire Association since it became organized in April 1976. He presently serves the Municipality of East Hants on the Fire Advisory Committee, and, the Emergency Management Planning Committee. Mac is married to Anne and they have four children and seven grandchildren.
